Art
and Law
Commissioning a work of Art from an
Artist is a unique, inspirational and should be a mutually
rewarding and positive experience.
However,
‘Commissioning’ falls into the realm of ‘Art
Law - and Contracts.
Most
Artists, administrators and commissioners will need at some
point the basic legal tools in dealing with sales, agents,
dealers, galleries, copyrights, re-sellers, valuers, accounting,
Investors and end Clients.*
No
two commissions will be the same. There are many standard
‘model contracts’ that have been adapted and applied
over the years; in some cases these are useful starting points.
However, the ONLY safe solution is to obtain clear ‘bespoke’
legal advice.
Our
firm view is there can be NO SHORT CUT from obtaining clear
professional advice from the outset. This applies equally
to a one off portrait painting - or a large Public monument.
We
act on YOUR best interest.
