Land Art - Splash Point, Worthing seafront
WSCC and Public Service Board ‘Art Strategy’

Closing date ‘expressions of interest’ by 1st December 2007
 

The one-off project is part of Worthing’s master plan regeneration and is the first of the ‘Public Art Strategy’ funded through the West Sussex County Council and the Public Service Board.

To be commissioned for the ‘Splash Point’ area the Worthing Borough Council are looking for a “fabulous piece of art that the public can really enjoy and interact with”. £70,000 is allocated and expressions of interests from local artists are invited by 1st December 2007

Historic Royal Palaces

The ‘Historic Royal Palaces’ have launched a Nationwide Art Competition to have an artist’s drawing enlarged to 100ft and displayed on the East Face of White Tower at the Tower of London from March 2008.

Entries are open to artists of all ages.

“We are looking for just one drawing which captures the drame, intrigue and significance of the stories and history of the White Tower, which started by William the Conqueror in 1078 has played a central role in British history ever since..”

Dance Competitions
 

The Place Dance Prize 2008
The Place Robin Howard Dance Theatre, London

Closing date 17.00hrs on Thursday 31st January, 2008

Held biennially, ‘The Place Prize’ is Europe’s largest choreography competition, awarding over £140,000 in commissioning and prize money.

Created by The Place’s Theatre Director John Ashford in 2004: sponsored by ‘Bloomberg’

The competition is open to all professional choreographers working in the UK. Entrants submit a three-minute video outlining an original idea for a new work, of which 20 are chosen in April to receive a commission award of £5,000 to create their 15 minute piece. In addition to their commission fees, the choreographers will be given studio time and technical support to create their new works during the Summer months. The dance works will be premiered at ‘The Place’ in London in September 2008.

Five will then be chosen to compete for £10,000 of audience-voted prizes. The performances will be held in ‘The Place’s Robin Howard Dance Theatre’ on Saturday 27th September.

Following the final performance, a panel of judges will award the grand prize of £25,000 to the winner.

Photographic Competitions
 

Jerwood Moving Image Awards
entries by 08.00hrs 3rd December 2007

Designed to support artists in the early stages of their careers - were announced in September by the Jerwood Charitable Foundation, and three awards of £10,000 will be made in March 2008.

Thirty artists will be selected for the shortlist, and these names will be announced on 18th January 2008 when the work will be posted online.   Eight finalists will be selected in February with their work exhibited in Jerwood Space from 20th February - 20th March 2008.

The winners will be announced on the 4th March 2008

Garden Photographer of the Year - 2008
Closing date 31st January 2008

The competition is open to amateurs and professionals.   There are no restrictions on the type of camera you use, or the techniques you use to produce your final image.

The judges will select >100finalists whose photographs will be printed to exhibition standard and shown at Kew Gardens in the Summer of 2008.
All finalists will receive an invitation to a Private View.

There will be a range of cash and other prizes for winners and runners-up.
Each category will have a winner and two runner-up prizes.  An additional prize will be awarded for the best portfolio and there will be two portfolio runner-up prizes.

Another 50 highly commended photographers will receive a prize.   All finalists and commended photographers will have their images shown on the Garden Photographer of the Year website during 2008/2009.

Drip Action Theatre: Arundel Festival
Joy Goun Award 2008

Drip Action Theatre is looking for eight new one-act plays to be performed as part of next year’s Arundel Festival.

The theme can be any genre - comedy, tragedy, suspense  - with setting with minimum scenery and props, daytime performance in mind.  Performance time 30 to 40 minutes.

Plays will be selected for performance by a panel of three judges; one overall winner receiving the 2008 Joy Goun Award of £100 cash prize.
